Our veggie gardens are in full swing now...tomatoes, zucchini and beans all love this July heat! We're concentrating on staying cool as the Ohio summer hits its peak this month...it's a great time to sit down with a good cookbook and a tall glass of ice-cold lemonade, isn't it? Grandma Gracie's Lemon Cake
Originally shared with us by Denise Musgrave of Shelbyville, Indiana, this cake is one of Denise's grandmother's best recipes. She was an excellent cook for her 6 kids, 18 grandkids and 35 great-grandkids!

18-1/4 oz. pkg. yellow cake mix
3.4-oz. pkg. instant lemon
pudding mix
3/4 c. oil
|
3/4 c. water
4 eggs, beaten
Garnish: powdered sugar
|
Combine all ingredients except powdered sugar; mix well. Pour into a greased 13"x9" baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Immediately poke holes through cake with a fork; pour glaze over cake. Dust with powdered sugar. Serves 10 to 12.

Glaze:
2 c. powdered sugar
2 T. butter, melted

2 T. water
1/3 c. lemon juice
|
Combine all ingredients; stir until smooth.

Tex-Mex Chili Dogs
Stacie Avner of Delaware, Ohio says that this recipe made plain ol' chili dogs a thing of the past at their house!

1-lb. pkg. hot dogs
2 15-oz. cans chili without beans
10-3/4 oz. can Cheddar cheese soup
4-oz. can chopped green chiles
| 10 hot dog buns, split
Garnish: chopped onion, crushed corn chips, shredded Cheddar cheese
|
Place hot dogs in a slow cooker. In a separate bowl, combine chili, soup and chiles; pour over hot dogs. Cover and cook on low setting for 4 to 5 hours. Serve hot dogs in buns; top with chili mixture and desired garnishes. Makes 10 sandwiches.
